VocationVacations

How would you like to have the chance to “try out” a new career before quitting your day job and plunging into something that might not be your cup of tea? Well, VocationVacations lets you do that. According to Brian Kurth, co-founder, VocationVacations lets you “test-drive your dream job.” “ It's a professional and personal due diligence to making a career change,” he says.
A VocationVacation usually lasts from 1 to 3 days. You can work one-to-one, for example, with a chef, sports agent, hotel manager, or vineyard owner to see what it's really like, in places all over the country. While the main career categories are fairly traditional, some can be pretty exotic. One man worked with a swordmaker and another, with the producer of the Ms. Universe and Ms USA pageants to find out what it's like to be a pageant producer. A corporate executive has been on a number of vacations dealing with the entertainment industry, including working as a tv producer, talent agent, and film event producer. While she is still in her corporate work, she thinks that she will make the switch at some point. In fact, Kurth says that over the 4 years the company has been in business, about 20% of Vocation Vacationers have made the transition into the dream job they tried out or are training to make the change.
On the other hand, if you've already found your dream job, then you could share it with vocationvactioners as a mentor. Baby boomers are perfect for this role, due to their experience in specific fields and facility with teaching what they know.
Prices for the vacations range from $549 for a one day vacation to a $3,000 top-of-the-line “vacation” with, say, a Broadway producer-director or wildlife trainer, but most vacations are in the $1,200 range. Vacationers provide their own airfare and living accommodations. If you think you would be interested in this kind of “test-drive,” or in becoming a mentor, contact VocationVacations.
